Mary moved to Hilton Head with her husband from Washington DC right after college 30+ years ago. Their three children were all born on the Island. The low country is her home.
Mary began her career in Retail Management at The GAP on the Island then headed out across the country opening new stores for Timberland. In those roles she was responsible for operational store management as well as all aspects of new store construction, stocking and staffing. This included the final punch list, hiring, training staff and communicating marketing and promotional needs.
Utilizing her varied experience, she began her lifestyle, marketing and development career at the non-profit Island Recreation Center. She created multiple large scale festivals and events that benefited the Center’s Scholarship fund and are still going strong decades later. Her imprint can be seen on the Summer Jam Concert Series, Wing Fest, the Hilton Head Oyster Fest and most things on the Island that suffix in “fest”.
In more recent years she has been working with other various nonprofits helping them to create unique events and fundraisers. Most recently she was the Development Director for the Autism Society of North Carolina.

Erin Marinaro is a native New Yorker and “a boomerang Blufftonian, having lived here for many years” before moving back full time in 2019. In life before children, Erin was a meeting planner by trade with absolutely no fitness background. In 2008, she was diagnosed with MS. A few days after her diagnosis she was determined to do everything in her power to fight this disease and never let it define her. Erin started focusing on fitness and eating whole foods and has never looked back.
Fitness and healthy living is a way of life for Erin and it has enabled her to be medication free. Erin’s vision for the Fins Up! Fitness Center is for it not to just be a place you come to exercise, but a place that fosters a sense of community whose residents empower each other and where they can make physical and mental changes as well.
